I am Christina Rougerie, an American interior designer, living in France since 2017.
The idea of starting a shop was always in the background since traveling back and forth to France since 2005. Upon settling in, the mere fact that my French level was not fluent enough to find work, I felt this was the perfect time to finally develop my online store.
Since moving, I started to blog on my design website (CR DESIGN STUDIO) to stay connected with the design world. Which lead me to the Maison et Objet show in Paris. From there I knew I wanted to seek my own pieces from exotic places.
As for creating the shop, I started with the idea of what is most important to me. I knew I wanted to be creative, however do my part being environmentally friendly by being conscious about saving material from the landfill, such as textiles and preloved pieces. When it came down to what products I would sell, I want to be a source for handmade quality pieces from raw material, and sustainable design which reflects an organic way of life and/or tells a story - et voilà SEEK was born.
My travels so far have also taken me to Morocco, where I had the privilege of meeting artisans and learning more about their family’s traditions passed down for generations. This was where I learned that many of the hammam towels, when sold at cheap price are made too fast, causing a weaker weave. More so, I also understood that some have even been machine-made and sold as “handmade”. This way of making lower quality “handmade” pieces reinforced my will to be on the ground like a journalist, gathering real information from the natives to discover and handpick the needle in the haystack. Which played part in coming up with our slogan “We seek - you find”. Everything I select are pieces I would have in my own home. In addition, customer care & trustworthiness are key components in our work ethics.
