This handmade rectangular copper fish kettle also known as the Poissonnière comes with a wrought iron lifter and is decorated on both sides. One with a coat of arms flanked by two mystical sea creatures while the other side has a Fleur De Lys decorated on a pattern ground. Inside is in original condition, can be scrubbed to remove the verdigris patina.
HISTORY: Made by local French artisans, circa 1860 throughout France. This heavy copper hammered on both sides to create the decorative motifs with hand-forged iron handle was created, as such, to poach fish over the fire.
Today, this beautiful piece can be used to hold cooking books in the kitchen or as a decorative shelf piece. Some also use it as a planter, as well as a beautiful addition to a display of French copper pots and pans.
